Who is this for?

  • If you’re creatively stuck and sick of overthinking instead of actually making stuff, this is for you.
  • If you’ve felt sheepish identifying as a writer, musician, or poet. You know you have it in you but wish you had more evidence.
  • If you spend a lot of time daydreaming about ideas you have but freeze when it comes time to put pen to paper.
  • If you’re a weirdo like me and want to create in a community of weirdos for inspo.

The End Goal

This challenge is about falling in love with the process. By showing up, you’ll rewire your brain to create without constant second guessing and you’ll rediscover the playfulness of making art.

Your work might become a song, poem, lyric, story, dance, letter, visual piece, or something totally unexpected. You’re encouraged to explore freely. Most folks gravitate toward words, music, or performance, but anything goes.

People are talkin’

"I'm breaking through walls that have been there for years. I came into this challenge so casually, and now it's become life changing. Not because of what I'm doing, but because I'm doing." Matt D · Former Creative Challenge participant
"Best money I might have ever spent. The accountability, prompts, support, encouragement, feedback, collabs, and challenges made it fun." Rachel M · Former Creative Challenge participant
"I can't begin to tell you how empowering it was to participate, experience, witness, and share with this special group. It was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Take the leap." Maria T · Former Creative Challenge participant

FAQ

If you’re willing to jump into something new with both feet and be honest with yourself along the way, this challenge will rock your world. Every single person has a creative life force inside. It’s just a matter of tapping into the goodness that’s already there. If you're expecting to write a NYT Best Seller or top the Billboard charts, this probably isn’t for you. In this challenge, we detach from polished outcomes. We honor the unique voice that wants to come through and we champion process and effort above all else. In my experience, this is the only way to true creative fulfillment. If that sounds good to you, welcome.

If you're writing at maximum honesty and feel fully satisfied with your creative community and your overall life enjoyment, dang, how did you do it? Also, this challenge is probably still for you. If your ego says otherwise, don’t bother.

Same as above. If you’re established but feel like you’ve hit a plateau, or like you're on the verge of something new, it’s time to mix it up and challenge how you relate to your craft. Join us.

Nope, all sales are final. And like everything in life, you get what you put in.

Yes. There are five live calls via Zoom. We’ll do a quick check in, a creative pregame, and then silently write our respective pieces. I’ll offer an optional prompt for each call. At the end, a few people will be invited to share what they created. You’d think writing alone on a muted Zoom call would feel the same as writing alone alone, but somehow these calls are always magical and full of surprises. It feels like we borrow each other’s flow state while still doing our own thing. Ripe with creative juices.

Yes. Each call will be recorded and available via an unlisted YouTube link.

No. I may offer three to four challenges a year, but each one has its own unique flavor. This time it’s Creative Recess. Every group carries its own lessons and energy. If you’re feeling drawn to this particular offer and vibe, I say pull the trigger.

We begin Sept 26. The deadline to join is also Sept 26.

You’ll have lifetime access to the private Facebook group. The group will close for active posting after the challenge ends. After that, you’ll still have read only access.

The simple answer is around ten minutes a day at any time in your day. That’s enough to make a difference, and it counts.

Some people barely participate during the challenge, and months or even years later a prompt or moment rises up and unlocks something big. This experience is designed for people with full lives and busy schedules. You can engage with the prompts any time of day or night. There’s no behind, no grade, no gold star.

If you feel a yes to this challenge, even if you’re not sure how it’ll fit, I encourage you to go for it. Trust the timing. Follow your curiosities. Let yourself be surprised by what flows through when you make even a little bit of space for your creativity.

I don’t think it’s possible to show up too much or too little. Making a commitment to yourself, even small pockets of time just for you, will be powerful.

The only scheduled part of the challenge is the live Zoom calls. If you miss a call, it’s no problem. The replays will be available. Everything else you can do in your own time.

This challenge is choose your own adventure. I offer an accountability buddy option if you’re looking for more of a kick in the butt. If you’d rather go slowly as you discover your own creative rhythm, I encourage that. Set your own pace. I and the group will support you in whatever you choose.

Yes. There will be space to work on your specific project, and people often find that the prompts naturally fuel or unlock something in their current work. The real magic shows up when you step outside the box a bit. If you only focus on your outside project and aren’t open to exploring other prompts, you might miss the unexpected breakthroughs that come from trying new things.

Think of it like cross training for your creativity. The prompts shake up your habits, get you out of your own way, and reconnect you to your spark. Bring your project, and leave room for surprise. That’s where the breakthroughs tend to happen.

I can’t guarantee you’ll feel safe at all times. Sometimes creative uplevels feel icky. What I can promise is that I do not tolerate hate speech of any kind. I am an unapologetic ally to People of Color, LGBTQ+ people, Disabled people, and anyone who has ever felt othered or on the fringe of society. I am devoted to you and the fullness of your expression. I reserve the right to remove anyone from the challenge if their comments or shares don’t align with these values. They will receive a full refund.

Also important: while I’m deeply fascinated by human behavior and various therapeutic modalities, I am not a certified therapist, and this challenge does not replace one on one healing work with a trained professional. If a prompt touches something too tender or deep and you’re not ready to go there, please pause before proceeding. You may be better supported by a therapist in that moment, and that’s okay. I trust the wisdom of your inner knowing.
